COMPOUND is an exciting and unique project which we aim to launch by mid 2014. It will operate like a Surf Shop & Espresso bar business but have the structure of an op shop, funding Non for profit Christian Surfers Australia.

OUR MISSION:

To be a Secondhand Surf Store & Espresso Bar that is people focused. One that brings together all ages, all backgrounds and all beliefs. To create an environment that puts the unity back into community and shows the love of Jesus in a real way.

THE SPACE:

Vintage is a booming market right now. The most popular coffee shops on the coast are the ones taking this approach, however we’re yet to see it in a surf context.

LOCATION:

We’d like to be located somewhere between Burleigh & Coolangatta. As this area has a higher volume of surfers, we are still in the process of securing a lease in this area.

Here’s what we see:

Hand painted signs
Unique racks/display ideas (i.e ladders, skateboard shelves etc)
Reading corner with surfing literature
Flat screens with classic vids
Old surfboards and skateboards mounted on walls
Vintage colour palette

Wood finishings
Retro posters i.e Endless Sumer
Comfortable vibe - Couches, rugs, bean bags
Friendly faces

This Project is an initiative of Christian Surfers Australia, which aims to:

Have a positive influence in the local surf community.
See Christian Surfers Website: www.christiansurfers.org.au
Create a community environment, that allows people to be themselves, and encourage one another in all walks of life. A place for people to come hang out talk about life & surf.
Provide a workplace in the surf industry for young adults and teenagers.
Be one of few Surf shops open for the early (6am), (so you never get stuck for wax or leggy when its pumping).
Provide for families & low socio demographic with low cost surf gear & clothing.
Encourage recycling and passing on preloved surf gear & clothing.
High quality Espresso bar, we’ll aim to make one of the best coffee’s on the coast.
To raise funds for non-for-profit organisation Christian Surfers Australia and other related organisations.

How you can get involved

1. Set up a Collection point.

We are collecting all types of surf clothing (male/female, child to adult) and if you feel you would like to contribute by setting up a collection bucket/bin of unneeded clothing in your staff area or from your customers, we can organise a collection at specific time and day each month or at an interval that suits you.

2. Spread the word.

Tell your friends, your family, Follow, Share, Tweet, Like, Comment, Repost, Shout-Out. The more people that know about the project the better.

3. Host a COMPOUND party.

Invite all your friends to a ‘COMPOUND’ party, tell them to clear their wardrobe out and bring their unneeded clothes and surf gear & make a night of it. If you would like a member of the COMPOUND team to attend your party and share the vision of the shop, then contact us.
